05 Mar Make A Plan
Make a Family Emergency Plan:
Your family may not be together when a disaster strikes so it is important to plan in advance: how you will get to a safe place; how you will contact one another; how you will get back together; and what you will do in different situations.
Ready.gov has made it simple for you to make a family emergency plan. Copy and fill out the sections you need before printing it or emailing it or mailing it to your family and friends as needed.
Once you’ve collected this important information, gather your family members and discuss the information to put in the plan. Practice your plan at least twice a year and update it according to any issues that arise.
You should also inquire about emergency plans at places where your family spends time: work, daycare and school, faith organizations, sports events and commuting. If no plans exist, consider volunteering to help create one. Talk to community leaders, your colleagues, neighbors and members of faith or civic organizations about how you can work together in the event of an emergency. You will be better prepared to safely reunite your family and loved ones during an emergency if you think ahead and communicate with others in advance.
The Commuter Plan has one important element to it on the form. Note the multiple buses, trains, etc for getting from point A to B, A being work and say B being home. Note also the multiple routes listings. If you use public Transportation to travel, what happens if it does not show up and you have to walk. Could there be a shorter route to get home or a safer one? These are things to consider as you think outside the box on how to get back together as a family. R & R. note.
Here is a Plan card for a Child to carry. If things were to happen while Child is at school, or with a fried across town, this info could be very important for getting the child back with their family. It all starts with communication and a Plan.
Here is the adult card for the parent’s wallets so the plan is written down and not forgotten in the midst of chaos.
These cards should be printed off on card stock for durability, and after being filled out they can be laminated for long term use and abuse in a wallet or pack.
