Emergency Lighting During a Disaster event.
Emergency Lighting might be needed:
- In a power outage at home.
- When you are away from Home.
- Should you have a vehicle breakdown and become stranded.
- During and after a house fire.
- For use as an emergency signal device.
- For emergency escape routes in home during Earthquakes or fire.
- For Inclusion in your emergency kits.
- For use while camping or backpacking, or mountaineering.
Don’t rely on one type of lighting only.
You should have different kinds of lighting for use in Emergencies.
- Electric Bulb Lighting / high power consumption.
- L.E.D. Bulb Lighting / low power consumption.
- Halogen Bulb Lighting / High Power consumption.
- Florescent Bulb Lighting / Low power consumption / High contamination potential upon bulb breakage. Don’t get cut with the mercury coated glass shards.
- Flashlights with LED Bulb – battery, crank, shake, solar.
- Oil Lamps / Dietz Hurricane Lamps / Wind proof.
- Lanterns / Battery, Gas, or Propane.
- Candles / Beeswax the best, Parafin second best.
- Glow Sticks
- Flares / avoid breathing the smoke.
Which ones should be used in which situation for safety:
- If you suspect possible gas leak (5,9)
- To use inside a Tent (2,5,6,7,9)
- Around Unsupervised Young Children (1,2,3,5,7a,9)
- If someone in the room is on oxygen (1,2,3,5,7a,9)
Remember to think in terms of fire or explosion. What lighting can I use that will minimize the possibility of igniting a fire or explosion when turned on.
